An interview with The Stiggz

This new interview has been realised by the manager himself!!! Well, of course, I send the questions as usual but this time, instead of answering in front of the computer, Mike, The manager, made a record of the interview and send me back all the answers. You're gonna have the feeling to read an interview of the NME!!!  ;)

First of all, can you introduce the band for the people who might not know you?
Hello, Bojour,  we are The Stiggz! I'm Rich, I'm lead singer and write the songs.  I'm Jack, i play lead guitar.  I’m Chris I’m the bands bass guitarist, I’m Christian (Pedro to me mates) and I’m rhythm guitarist and I’m Ben, I’m the drummer.

How did you all meet? And where did the idea come from to be in a band?
Rich: I think we’d all played music on some level for years, and I’d started to write some good songs.  So that was like the next logical thing to do.  It was about having people listen to the music I write and connect with it somehow, on some level.
Chris pointing at Rich: Well I’m his brother
Rich: Yeah, we met at the hospital!  Known each other for years.  (laughter)
Jack: I joined towards the end of 2008, but yeah we’d all known each other for ages.

Christian, you're quite new in the band, what is like to be the newbie?
Pedro: At first it was what you would expect with nerves etc (not helped by having my first gig at The Assembly Rooms not far away), but I was helped massively by the other members in the band as they are all very good musicians and experienced.  After that first performance I felt like I became comfortable as part of the band and during performances it wasn't all eyes on me!

And for the others, when did you realise you wanted/needed a 5th member?
Rich: We didn’t (laughter), we didn’t, we saw him busking and thought he best join.
Chris: Yeah he did hang around a bit.  Started coming to every gig (laughs)
Jack: We’d talked about it, and it gave Rich more time to focus on the vocal aspect of his performance.

Was musician, the job you wanted to do as when you were much younger?

Rich: I wanted to be a dustbin man, what age are we talking?  (laughs)
Chris: Good money!
Rich: Yes, I’ve always wanted to be involved with music to some degree, at some level.
Chris: arghhhh! (laughter)
Rich: did you just slap his arse?
Ben: Have you seen what he’s wearing?
Rich: Can I just say before we go any further Chris is actually doing this interview in a green mankini.
Chris: Yeah lime green
Pedro: It’s fluorescent, fluorescent lime green!
Jack: I never knew what I wanted to be apart from the obvious ‘a footballer’ but being a musician Is pretty cool expressing yourself on stage
Pedro: Yeah and plus we’ve seen him play football!

Where did you find this name for the band?

In the face of every child!

Are you writing the songs all together? And where do you find the inspiration?

Rich: No I mainly write the songs.  Chris is coming to the fore front a lot more at the moment.  We’re writing songs working on a new album at the moment and Chris is collaborating and having more input and giving more feedback than he’s had before, so it’s working well. So, yeah the songs are a lot darker
Chris: That makes me sound depressing (laughs)
Rich: Even with a mankini
Rich: Where do I find the inspiration?  Depends how I’m feeling at the time really innit.  I try to find inspiration from where I’m at, at that moment.
Chris: What the kitchen? (laughter)

Do you have a special place to write the songs?

No, not really.  Whenever I’m inspired and a song or lyric comes to me
You're, at the moment, in a "battle" with other bands to become one of the next support bands for the next McFly tour. What do you think of this kind of "battle"?
Rich: I enjoy the process, it gets a lot of people interested

Chris: Keep our name out there, I mean just from the reaction
Rich: I think it’s just a shame that…this is the way people have to discover you.  On the back of someone else’s success really.  I dunno, I like it, it’s good fun.

And if you're one of the winners, what do you think it could bring to the band?

Chris: Attention
Rich: Yeah.  I think it’ll put us in the spotlight a little bit more.  Get us a wider audience, a broader audience

Aren't you scared to be "booing" by their fans?

Rich: I am now you’ve said that (laughter), I wasn’t

What's your biggest dream for the band?
Chris: To make it big really.  To be able to look back on it and be proud of it
Rich: I’d like to play venues to thousands of people, for the majority of the year
Chris: To be known as an inspiration for other bands.  To have an up and coming band to name us an inspiration.
Jack: Well the biggest dream would be to play at Wembley stadium in front of 10 of thousands of people, but for now, i would say it is to get signed.

What would your perfect gig look like?
Rich: Well to be big enough to be able to play things like Glastonbury, Wembley, Knebworth stuff like that.  But also to be in that position, and still to be able to put on a really private intimate gig stripped down to the bare basics somewhere.
Chris: Candles?
Rich: Yeah, a secret gig, to be about 100/200 people, people like family, partners, people who’ve inspired the songs, even though they might not know it.  People that have been there from day one.  And alcohol, lots of alcohol.

I saw you've been support act for Tiffany Page and the Young Knives, is there some artists/bands you'd love to support?
All: McFly
Rich: Yeah McFly, would be one, big one.  I’d like to support someone like Coldplay, U2 you know? A massive band
Chris: Stones Roses
Rich: Yeah Stone Roses, now they’re back, they’d be pretty cool to support
Jack: Blink
Rich: White Lies, I like them they’re a good band, American band

And on the other way, do you know a good artist/band you would love to support you?
Jack:  There are so many good bands. I remember the gig at melton youth club where a young band supported us and really looked up to us and I was glad to give them advice and pass on some of our experience.

You played in different places , where are the most amazing "fans"?

Chris: Leicester, Manchester?  Dunno I mean they’ve all meant something. Northampton?
Rich: Northampton, yeah that was a really good crowd
Jack: And the festivals
Rich: Yeah the festivals we’ve played are always great, we played Summer Sundae last eyar and the next day walking round this group of girls came up and asked to have their pictures taken with us, that was pretty amazing.
Ben: The Magic Bus!
Rich: Yeah whenever we fill one of the Stiggz magic buses whereever the magic bus goes and get a big crowd of our own fans, full on really close and sweaty.

Is there a place/town/country where you absolutely want to play one day?

Rich: France!  We’d like to sort some gigs in France, and other parts of Europe, I mean the album went down well and had quite a bit of radio play in France, Finland, Norway, Germany
Pedro: All over really
Chris: Yeah it did get airtime all over parts of Europe really
Rich: And Sweden.  I mean in France, Paris is an obvious choice we’d love to play there just because its an amazing city, but I’d like to play maybe cities that aren’t as obvious choices as well, like Marseille or Lille or something like that.
Jack: Over here I’d like to go south and play in London and also go abroad to places like France and Holland
Rich: Tour of America, Asia you know Japan, and places like that, they really love British music that’d be a good vibe.

You released a single "Indie Disco" and gave all the profit to the BBC Children in Need. Where did this idea come from and why this association?
Rich:  Yeah, it’s a charity that I’ve been involved with a few years. I raise money for it every year, but a couple of years ago with another friend outside of the band raised lots of money, and put on a massive event.  Other people extended family and that have raised money for it, and I just thought it’d be good to do it.  We just thought it’d be a nice way to be help out other people, in a way that we can best.

Do you have an idol in the music scene? And in the rest of arts, life?

Rich: Morrisey, yeah Morrisey what a guy!  Kurt Cobain.
Chris: Joe Strummer
Rich: Strummer, yeah Joe Strummer he’s a good one.  Ray Davies, waterloo sunset alone mate puts him down to deserve to be on this list
Jack:  I have to say my Idol is Tom Delonge from Blink-182 as he is the guitarist I grew up with.
Rich: Chuck Palahniuk, is a massive idol. He’s an author and wrote some amazing books like Fight Club and Lullaby, he’s absolutely twisted and looks at things from a different perspective that you’d never believe…. modern day George Orwell, in my opinion better.  Absolutely incredible, they’re good.  If you’ve not read a book go to your library and get one!

What do you think of the other Leicester bands/artists?

Rich: Sound, there’s a good music thing going on in Leicester at the moment.  There’s a good variety there’s a lot of indie bands, there’s a lot that people need to recognise. There’s the pop punk, alternative there’s a really wide range.
Jack: Leicester has a really good music scene. There are loads of bands and good places to play, it’s a very competitive place to be in which is only good as it means you are always going to be striving to be the best.
Chris:  There was an MC we heard the other day Rapper, can’t remember his name but he was cool.  Rich: There’s a lot of good music it’s just a question of putting in on the map.

Is there an artist with who you'd love to make duet?

Rich: Frank Sinatra, but that’s not gonna happen.  But he would be, if I could have anyone in the world it’d be me and Frank
Chris: I’d do one with Kelly Jones
Jack: Yeah Kelly Jones of The Sterophonics would be cool
Rich: I think there’s got to be a female in there somehow.  Yeah, I dunno there’s loads of people, I’d make a duet with not necessary in the public eye.  There might even be some guest vocal on the new album, on a track or two…so watch this space

What was the 1st ever cd/vinyl you bought with your own money?

Chris: I really don’t want to say mine.  It was Abz, Little Miss Perfect
Rich: (laughing) Yeah I forgot that, Chris’s was Little Miss Perfect by Abz, used to be in Five
Chris: I was young at the time
Rich: I mean mine was terrible but mine was cliché terrible, but his was really bad he modelled his haircut on him for years and his six pack
Rich: Aqua.
Chris: Aqua? Barbie Girl?
Rich: Who else did I buy? Little Bow Wow - where’s my dogs at or whatever
Jack: Jamiroquai – A Funk Odyssey
Rich: Eiffel 65 - blue (da ba dee) was another one
Pedro: Abba was mine, or Robson and Jerome!  (laughter)
All: Why did we get him in again?

What would you do if, imagine, one day, all types of arts are banned from our life?
Jack: Well I don’t know, maybe cry in a cave?
Rich: Break the law. Yeah break the fucking law!

Some musicians suddenly want to become actors and vice versa, do you think this could happen to you???

Rich: I’d like to dabble.  Yeah I’d like to be James Bond
Chris: Every man would
Pedro:   As every man would.
Rich: I’d like to make a remake of Guys and Dolls and play Nathan Detroit!  That’s musical so that’s a bit of both!

Is there a director you'd love to have for one of your videos? And a actor?
Rich: James Cameron
Chris: Yeah James Cameron would whack some terminator in there
Ben:  Bit of avatar in the background, mixed with some titanic
Chris: Even get Arnold Schwarzenegger in there, bring him back. If he’s training again.
Rich: He is training again he’s making a new film, yeah bit of Arnold Schwarzenegger
Chris: Helena Bonham Carter maybe?
Pedro: Yeah that’s not cause you think she’s a good actress, you just wanna…(laughter)
Jack: Gerard Butler would look pretty cool in a video!!

Final question: Do you have a message for your fans/supporters???

Chris: Thanks for having us! Yeah please vote for us on the McFly vote.
Jack: Keep checking the facebook page there’ll be some big updates coming up, the new album and stuff should be out about May next year.
Ben:  Thanks for all your support, you make playing worthwhile and without you we would be nothing!
Pedro: Write to us
Rich: Yeah write in to us, write on our facebook wall, keep in contact with us we like talking to you
Rich: Thank you for being great fans and we hope you like the new album.  Be ready… Mushubi 2012

KAV

I discovered Kav many years ago when he joined, in 2004, the band Happy Mondays , a band I love since when I was a kid. With this band, he co-write the last album "Uncle Dysfunktional" and the song "Playground Superstar".

Previously, he was in a band called A.K.A.Weave with who he toured the UK, after that he co-launched the club night "Getloaded" at London's Turnmills nightclub. This was the start of a partnership with Turnmills MD and House promoter Danny Newman. Over the next 18 months, Sandhu brought various musicians to "Getloaded", including Factory Records boss Tony Wilson, Howard Marks (Mr Nice), Clint Boon (Inspiral Carpets/ XFM) Peter Hook (New Order/ Joy Division), Annie Mac (Radio 1), Steve Lamacq (Radio 1/ 6Music), Carl Barat (Libertines/ Dirty Pretty Things) Beta Band, Andy Rourke and Mike Joyce (The Smiths), The Farm, Client, and El Presidente. (cf wikipedia!!! )

Kav Launched his solo project in 2008 and the first EP came quite quickly in April of the same year. The EP called "Blaggers N' Liars"  received lots of good reviews and Kav get compared to a young Bob Dylan addicted to sleaze.

In November 2010, KAV released 'The Mr Nice EP' featuring British legend Howard Marks. This EP  surrounding Howard's biopic film 'Mr Nice' starring Rhys Ifans ( one of my fave actor!!) & Chloë Sevigny.

During the years 2010/2011, KAV toured around the US, because Kav is from Leicester (another one! :) ) but now he used to share his life between the US, London and Leicester. He even played at SXSW in 2010 but also at the Viper Room in July 2011. He recorded his first album in Los-Angeles, this album will be released in a studio version but also in a live version. This album will be officially released in March 2012.

You can pre-order this album on Pledge Music .

Worship

Worship is a new band formed by 4 friends. I can't tell you much about this band because like in a very imaginative new project, they hadn't share a lot of information about them, where do they come from and more. But I think it's also part of the good idea to help make talk about them!  Why? Because you hear their song and then say "wahooo who's that?", well you can see 2 videos, you can find their picture but who they are is still a "secret" (reminds me a little bit of Daft Punk when they begun their career) .

You should have a listen to their first EP "House Of Glass" that has been released on the 21 of November.
You can buy it from Killing Moon Records and on Rough Trade as a vinyl 7' ,  and on Itunes  as a digital order.

I would describe their music as alternative rock with good synthetizer sound. Im sure some people might compare them to Editors or Depeche Mode, but I won't. Of course, the voice of the singer reminds me of another one, same for the music but I hate the comparisons, I like the bands to be themselves and not always remind them that in this song you can hear something from such band...

You can find Worship on their Facebook , soundloud , twitter ,MyspaceAmazing Tunes , and of course on  Their Official Website

Doyle & The Fourfathers

Doyle & the Fourfathers is a band I discovered yesterday evening while listening to Shell Zenner on Bolton FM!!!

 Doyle & The Fourfathers is:
William Doyle  who's the lead singer and play the acoustic guitar
Ben Clark  who plays electric guitar, harmonica, casio, vibraphone and other stuff.
Michael Goozee who plays the bass.
Alex Urch at the Drums.

They come from Southampton and formed the band in September 2009. They describe their music as Alternative Pop but I would add that they're also Folky Pop and Rock. They use to find inspiration in the music of the last 60 years that's why you can find all sort of genre.

In 2010, the band played during the 'Save 6 Music' Protest gig at the 229 Club in London and also played a live seesion for Marc Riley on his BBC 6 music show.

They released a first single in October 2010 as a7", cd and download and it's still available on itunes.
The Governor of Giving Up’  got plenty of play on BBC 6 Music  where Marc Riley described it as 'an absolute whopper' and of course on plenty of other stations.
The 1st album ' Made Man' has been released in 28 February of this year and you can buy it here

They're currently on tour and will be supporting The Undertones in December .

What can I wish them the most? Oh yeah... Coming to Paris.... ;)

You can find the band on their Facebook Page , Twitter page , Youtube Channel , Last.Fm Profile and of Course, on their official Website  where you can download several songs for free.

Little Vegas Lies - new EP -DOMINO-

After the release of their first EP 'A Truth Not Far Away' in last May, Little Vegas Lies is back with a new guitarist and a new self-funded EP. This EP is called "Domino" and contain 4 songs (all written by Steven McNamara, except the 4th written by Steven and Simon Moore) and it's more rock than the 1st one. :)

Standing Room Only
Domino
Hang Fire
Set Me On Fire

As I've been able to listen to this EP since yesterday, I just put it in my ipod and keep on listening to it since the 1st hour of the day yesterday (and today) cos I wanted to immerse myself into it!

At the 1st listen, I literally fell in love with Standing Room Only, because since the very first second, the guitar riff makes you think you're gonna listen to a lullaby then, the drums is coming in a perfect mix with the guitar and you finally listening a poppy rock song that integrate a slow part in the verses (to catch your breath ).
Domino is probably my favorite song of the EP, maybe I won't be the only one and that's why they choose its title to named the EP! Once again, the mix guitar/drums has the best role (damn Im a bassist not a guitarist!!). When listening to that song you just wanna sing "Raise me - Hold me" with Simon while moving your body in the rythm of the song.  Domino is a real Rock tune.
Hang Fire could become a rock anthem with the mix of the music and Simon's voice.  But I think that in this song, Simon's voice is more in the high frequency that would makes you love or hate the song. But also, Simon's voice has something quite special, I know some persons who wouldn't like me saying that but his voice's range reminds me a little bit of Liam G. 's voice at the very beginning of Oasis.
Set me on Fire is the perfect song to put at the end of an ep, I mean, you just wanna press the play button again and again, and dance like a crazy on that great songs.
The Only problem of The Domino Ep is that if you hate hearing songs full of great guitar's riffs, then just don't press play, if you don't like to move your body on some rock's songs, then don't press the play button AND if you don't like bands with a singer who has a special voice, then don't press the play button...

This EP has been recorded at the Loom Studio where the great Operator Six also recently been... And have been recorded, mixed and mastered by Grant Henderson

From December the 12th, You will be able to buy physical cd (including a deluxe version with signed postcard and poster) on the official website of Little Vegas Lies. Otherwise, you can order it from the usual Itunes, Amazon, Zune, Spotify, Napster, Play.com. (You're not allow to say you couldn't find it with all those supports!)

If the EP will be available in December, you can already listen to the 1st single "Standing Room Only" thanks to the video, the band just revealed to the public.

Little Vegas Lies

Little Vegas Lies is a band from West Yorkshire that I discovered thanx to...... Instagram!!!! Yes this great Iphone Photography Application can, also, be helpful to discover some new music!!! I know I was the 1st one to be surprise!!!

Little Vegas Lies is formed by :

Steven McNamara at the Guitar and Backing vocals
Simon Moore at the Vocals and acoustic guitar
Craig Thompson at the Drums
Andy Cooper at the Bass Guitar
Lee Martin at the Guitar

They formed in the middle of 2010 after the Lead singer Simon and the guitarist, Steven had a discussion about the state of the music industry at that time.
This resulted with the conclusion that music has ‘lost its soul’.
Simon and Steven are both of them the songwriters of all their songs.
The band self-funded their first EP ‘A Truth Not Far Away’. ( That you can buy on Itunes )After the hard work they done, they received an invitation from BBC Introducing to perform a live session with Alan Raw on BBC Leeds, this live performance helped them to increase the number of fans on their bands profile.

Their second EP "Domino" will be released very soon! In December the 12th to be precise. With this new EP, the band
keep on spreading "messages against the current music trend which is dominated by urban, R&B and dance music"

In their influences, the band named : The Smiths, Oasis, Stone Roses, Interpol, The Twilight Sad, I Am Kloot, The Verve, AC/DC, Led Zeppellin, The Who, Manic Street Preachers....

I would define their music as pop-rock/Brit Rock.

You can find them on their Facebook PageTwitterYoutube pageSoundcloudSpotify page .

An Interview with MovE!

As you have probably noticed, MovE! has become one of my favorite band from Leicester , with their energic music, you always feel the need to move your body. Guy, Bassist, has kindly answered to some questions. Wanna learn more about those 4 brilliants guys? Just read the following interview! :)

First of all, can you introduce the full band and say who play what?
MovE are J Kenna - Guitar/Vox,  Pockets - Guitar, Guy - Bass and Lewis - Drums

Can you tell us how did you all met? And how did you decided to make this band.
Well we are all good friends that know each other from various well-established local bands of days gone by, J wanted to have a go at the front man instead of being behind the drums, lewis was up for drumming so we went to have a jam through a few songs and it all kicked off, never looked back.

What's your past and experience in the music scene? so many bands between us all, i will have a think.
J: Deap People / Superevolver / Ego Armalade /
Wonder bus

Pockets: Deap people / Orange Boodle / Lamp
Guy: SundayClub / Five Green Bottles / Forgotten sun
/ Superevolver
Lewis:  Ego Armalade / Carnival Clowns

Why did you choose to name the band "MovE!"?  Is there an "homage" to the 60's band "The Move" in this name?
No we were thinking for ages, didnt even think about the band called The Move, we are more like "MOVE out the F****** way"

How would you describe your music?
Each individual member has contributed influences from different genres including blues, psychedelic and garage rock.

Ok, you know I discovered you cos your singer plays the drums in another band at the mo'. Are you all able to play others instruments? Could you once swap all the instruments for a "special gig"?
All of us can play most things if we have to. I am not going to sing tho.

The band is quite young but you already played quite a lot of gigs in Leicester, what kind of reaction sod you use to hear after each gigs?
The reaction has been so great, could of never expected this.

How did you decide one day to learn how to play an instrument and how did you choose the one that will became THE instrument?
Not really sure, cant remember a day when music wasnt part of any of us, but we are all different, bands like oasis, blackcrowes, etc etc, made us really want it.

Are you writing the songs all together? Where do you find the inspiration?
All different, J writes some, Pockets writes lots of music, we can all put an input in, J is great at words tho.

Do you have some heros/idols who inspired you?
1000's

And in the rest of the world of arts?
To many to pick.

If you could do a cover, which song would you choose and why?
Er thats a hard one, cant pick at the min, maybe one day we might go there but at the min, it has never crossed our minds.

Is there a band/artist with who you would love to work with or even make a duet?
 Chris Robinson - Blackcrowes

Do you have a special dream for the band?
Just to be the best.

If you could give one of your song for a charity. Which kind of charity would you choose and which song would you pick up? (if this song is already written)
Don't think we have one at the min, but there is so many good charitys out there, we would gladly do one.

Give me, each of you, 3 words to describe your music and 3 words to describe the band.
Mega - dont need any more ha ha

Have you already choose which one of your songs will be the first EP? Will it be "It's Our Time"?
Cant say, its will be finished this month tho.

Is there a country/city were you would love to play several gigs? Have you an "american dream"?
It would be a dream to play everywhere.

You don't have an EP released yet BUT is there a director you'd love to have to film your first ever videoclip?
 No not yet.

And do you have an idea of the type of video you'd love to have?
 Yes one like Motley Crue.

We can hear several of your demos on your myspace, do you already have a favorite one?
 We love all of them.

2 weeks ago, I saw you playing at the Strawberry Fields Fest. What was your feelings after playing in a festival?
Its such a great feeling, lots of people you have never seen before dancing to your songs, cant beat that.

Are you, all of you, interested in another art? (cinema, painting, etc...)
Pockets is great a graphics, he does all our posters.

What will you do if tomorrow music is banned from our life and you have to choose for another career?
Get sent to jail, could never stop sorry.

Do you have a song that could be your guilty pleasure? And one that you love but should be ashame of?
Not saying. (*cheateeeeerr!!)

What was the 1st ever gig you went to? And what was the 1st ever cd/vinyl you bought with your own money?
Cant remember, oh mine was salt and pepa.

You're from Leicester where, I think, there is a real "nest" of great music and new bands. Do you have some names to give us, some bands/artists we don't know yet but who should become big?
Er, you would have to come to our shows, as we always get the other bands to play with us, but there are a lot, Leicester sounds great at the min.

Do you have a special place/venue where you loved to play in Leicester?
Yes, enjoy the firebug

Final question: Do you have a message for your fans/supporters?
2012 will be massive people. Big things are going down.
