The Stiggz - Indie Disco

The Stiggz

The Stiggz is one of those bands I discovered thanx to friends from Leicester, and guess where they're from? Leicstershire/Derbyshire of course!

That 4 pieces formed in 2008 and is composed of:
Richard Elderton at the guitar and lead vocals
Jack Patrick at the guitar and backing vocals
Chris Elderton at bass and backing vocals
Ben Jones at the drums and backing vocals

A fifth member came to complete the quatuor this year in the person of:

Christian Wardle at the guitar

On their official page you can read:

Since sending a demo to radio DJ Janice Long, who featured songs on her Radio 2 and Radio WM shows, the band have gone on to have nine tracks picked up by radio stations to date.

2010 was another big year for The Stiggz.
In January they supported Mercury Records, Tiffany Page at The Musician before going on to great success in OBS10 and three major festivals over the summer packing the marquee at Summer Sundae Weekender, Strawberry Fields and Glastonbudget, where they were interviewed by The Sun and Q magazine.

April saw the release of the debut album, Don’t Read The Small Print, which The Wave raved ‘puts artists like Kaiser Chiefs and Temper Trap to shame.’ Following radio play across Europe, the album sold in The UK, USA, Spain, France, Sweden, Germany, Norway and Finland.

Over the summer they spent 10 weeks on the UK Unsigned Chart, when Speaking of Improper Conduct went top 10. A demo of the same track simultaneously topped twelve charts on DAB station Amazing Tunes in 2009.

The success gained the band national attention when they were approached by national music and fashion magazine Clash Music to take part in a photo shoot for Italian Brand Replay. After playing two acoustic sets at Pilot for the brand, they featured in a double page spread in the November issue of Clash Music.

The magazine shoot coincided with the release of a single Indie Disco, which the band agreed to give all profits from to BBC Children in Need. As a result they received support from HMV who stocked the single in four midlands stores (Leicester, Derby and two in Birmingham). The first official video for the single being played on BBC Big Screens around the Midlands in the lead up to release.

In brief, this band is going to be big. 2012 might be a good year for them with more and more gigs and maybe out of England...  ;)

You can find them on their FacebookMyspace, Twitter, and their Reverbnation page

News will be following very soon... :)

Danny Greet - More Than Faith

This MP3 have been recorded one afternoon where Danny was waiting for a singer/songwriter to work with. As she finally didn't turn up, he decided to do that own take on his band's song 'More Than Faith'. He never wrote the original, he says " sometimes you just get that itchy trigger finger".
Everything was played, recorded and mastered by himself.

Danny Greet

There is some artists that I discovered because they're the support band at a gig, some found me on Twitter, others were recommended by friends in the music industry, and most are friends of friends (musicians), this is how I know Danny Greet!
He is a good friend of MovE and I understood I had to have a listen at his work. I went to the Oxjam Festival in Leicester to see Move and others and Danny was playing too so I went to see him and yeah I was quite happy to be there and finally have a live listen at him!

Danny is the singer/guitarist of the band The Manhattan Project, but unfortunatelly, they couldn't play together for a while cos their bassist had a bad problem of "broken bones" ... Twice...
Danny finally decided to play on his own. He is still at the beginning of his new solo artist's career, so unfortunatelly I can't give you link to listen to his own stuff but you can have a listen to the song of The Manhattan Project on their Myspace or on their Facebook. During his gig, Danny plays his own new songs but also some of the songs of the band.

He sounds like a pop/rock/folk acoustic musician with some anger coming from his belly. I've seen/heard him once and I never heard any wrong note. Danny is a great and good musician who deserve to be followed.

You can hear 2 of his songs live in the following videos:

Here's a picture of Danny in the middle of his band (James - Danny - John - Sid)

Bibelots

Bibelots is one of those bands I know for several months, and used to listen to their songs without paying intention to the guys in the bands.... Now, it has changed, I wanna pay attention to all the bands members of the songs I love...

Bibelots is a band from London, formed in 2007 by Ben (lead voice and guitar), Neil (lead guitar), Gaz ( Bass), Tim (drums) and Bobby (keyboards).
How do I know them? Honestly, I can't remember but Im sure it was at the same time as I discovered The Black Dove Experiment (which I miss a little bit..) with who they share a recording studio....
I used to listen to their songs and suddenly they disappeared from my itunes, I noticed that only few weeks ago, when I was looking for stuffs on Facebook and went on their page!!!! I just had to re-open my external hard-drive, find the MP3 file and whooooop, they were there, waiting for me!!! I know I can be so bad sometimes, now the songs are back 5 songs are back in my itunes and Ipod and I can had 2 others! (I'll explain why for 1 after) ...

What makes me like this band? The combination of differents musics, the voice of Ben (Im really often attracted by the voice of the singer when some other will give priority to the music, guitar riffs, etc..), I really love this mixing of Pop Rock, electronic vibes and dance, and a little bit of Brit Pop plus Ben's voice is just brilliant. He can push his voice in a highly note without forcing and sounding like a pig in pain! And I never heard a wrong note... (Ok, I never saw them live yet but I saw some live videos!)

My favorite song is Devil's Highway

But Im also really into their song "The Bomb" that you can have as a free download Here on the This Feelings special page.

Ashdowne

Ashdowne is a four pieces band from Leicester (yep again!!!), I was supposed to write about them on here for about 1 year or more but as usual I get lazy but here they are!!!!!

Ashdowne is formed by
Lee Wakeling at the vocal and guitar
Andy Kempin at the lead guitar
Gripper Groves at the drums
Ben Hepworth at the bass

They're from the "outskirts of Leicester", they formed in 2004, they were just a bunch of mates who decided to put their creativity together and play music together.

On their Facebook's page, you can read:

"Formed in 2004, Ashdowne are a four piece indie rock band from the outskirts of Leicester. Just four mates that share a passion for making and playing music together, fusing their individual influences and creativity to radiate a sound which portrays ambience along with catchy distinctive lyrics, melodies and guitar driven eclectic overtones.

Playing to the ever faithful crowds in and around their home town, they quickly established themselves on the local scene, winning the ‘Battle of the Bands’ two years consecutively, which lead to a whole string of national gigs and festivals including venues such as The Cavern, The Half Moon, Roadmenders and The Charlotte, where they supported the likes of Speedway, Morning Runner and The Subways. They were also successful in securing a place out of over 4,000 entries in the final at the 2007 Indie Music Awards ceremony, where they were nominated for ‘Best Rock Act’ and ‘The Peoples Favourite’ awards.

After building their own recording studio above a DIY shop at the back of an old industrial estate in their hometown, the band soon got to work on recording demos striving for a sound which would help set them apart from the stripped, guitar pop bands of today. It wasn’t long before one of their demos captured the attention of London based producer Chris Sutton.

“We were lucky when our demos captured the ears of Chris” says singer Lee Wakeling. “He seemed to understand our sound and the depth in which we wanted the songs to develop. He has definitely helped to nurture Ashdowne into the mood, feel and direction we were already steadily heading, I guess you could say he helped give us that final push.”

With his help they continued to write and record, either in Chris’s studio based in Surrey or at their own makeshift studio back in Leicester.

“We always had in our heads a big production for Ashdowne and wanted to get that across to the listeners as much as our tiny budget could afford” continues Lee, “…so we tried to experiment with anything we could lay our hands on; e-bows, live strings, pianos, French horns, samples from news reports and media clips, even the odd angelic female vocal seemed to help the songs come to life.”

After several months of hibernating in their studio with no daylight, living off coffee, takeaways and pep pills, sweating bullets and almost driving Chris into meltdown, Ashdowne have ultimately finished up with a collection of strong, diverse and entrancing songs, which they hope will take them to the next level.

Ashdowne are now dedicated to playing their captivating live shows up and down the country to introduce their material to the masses and build on their existing loyal fan base."

I discovered them after their drummer send me the link to their page on facebook, he "discovered" me through my friendship with The Screening!!!!! aaaah what a small world...
I personnaly find Lee's voice quite amazing! And I finally been able to see them live at the end of August at the Strawberry Fields Festival, and I can tell you that I was waiting to "see" if this voice was still amazing and the same live... Well, yes, I don't know what is Lee's secret but in live his voice is as perfect as on the album version.  But I was disappointed when I realised that there was not a lot of public around me... My friend Kevin who know them and saw them several times, told me that it was probably because they're not one of this new band "a la mode" and followed by crazy screaming teenage girl but more by connoisseurs... Well I must say that sometimes it's great to see a good band play his music without some teenage yeller around you!!!
They're at the mo' working on their new EP and new album, for which I hope and think they will play around the whole UK and no more only Leicestershire and maybe also in Paris! (yeah I love to dream of my own festival!)

You can find them on their Facebook pageFacebook Fanpage, Twitter, Official website and their Myspace.

Here's my videos of their set at the Strawberry Fields festival. Enjoy and spread the word.
