The Screening Live at 100Club!

First of all, Im sorry, Im late for this review BUT I have a life and I needed the setlist to write this....OK I know false and ridiculous excuse!!!! :p

On Thursday the 28th of July, the BRILLIANT band The Screening have played the famous 100 Club  in London and "Oh my, I was so lucky", it was during the first week of my holidays so I could be there!!!
And as I was lucky on that day, on my way to the club, my friend and I met Mark Stoermer ! (if you don't know who he is, Mark is the bassist in the band The Killers!!!)

So, I had the chance to discovered that famous club and (despite the fact that there was reall room for the bands in the "backstage"), this club is quite nice and full of pictures of the artists that played there and  wow lots of huge artists!

The 1st artist to come on stage this day was James Page, a young singer/songwriter from Cambridge who came with lots of fans (One (a man) was a little bit scary as he seems really in love with him!!! ;p), followed by Marines a nice little band from Suffolk, then on 3rd,we could hear the most fabulous band in the Leicestershire (WHAT????? ;p) The Screening, followed by Violet Bones and the only thing I remember about this band was the blue shoes and the really skinny jeans of the singer and the fact that he went into the crowds at the end and asked to the photographers to come on stage, and Hans Commission have finish the gig but.... I haven't listen to them... (sorry)

So The Screening came on stage and.... I was happy!!!! This was the 1st time I could see Amy on stage with the guys so I was quite impatient. And as usual, they did really well!
They begin the set with "Drop That Bomb", followed by the brilliant "You Look Much Better In The Dark" where the public suddenly woke up! Then, came the new "Colour", I won't say "I love this song" even if I do... "Red Room" was the next one, I didn't know that song (or didn't remembered it! aah) BUT i like Tom Lewitt's backing vocal on it... The next one was a song I really love but in its original version " Throught My Telescope", they know play it in a reggae version, which is so different of the original, this is an absolute new kind of music in their set! The following one was the beautiful song you could find on the cd they released for The Harley Staples Cancer Trust, this song is called "Light Show" and well, if you don't have a tear in your eye, you're not human! :) . They continued with the new new new song "She's The One" where you can the skill of Amy with her keyboards! They finally finished their set with the famous "Diem", this song is so brilliant that you can't take it off your head after one listen!

Well, in conclusion of this rubbish review you will of course understand that YES, I really LOVE that band and Im glad that they've added a new member and "oh Joy", it's a girl with skill!!! If one day, you see that "The Screening" are playing in your area, PLEASE go and tell me about it!!! Im sure you won't be disappointed!!!!

To finish, I'll post some of my pics of that night....

The "new" Screening member!!!!

One of my favorite band just welcomed a new member, and instead of only posting her (yes HER) picture and write her name, I thought she could introduced herself thanx to a small interview! Let me introduce you Amy Horsley, the new The Screening member!

Amy, at the beginning of July, you officially became the new member of The Screening. How did you get to meet the guys?

I met them up a dark ally one night. I was bitten. then all of a sudden I was playing in a band with them! ..... (I work with Tom Lewitt)

How did they ask you to join the band?

Tom asked me to come along to a rehearsal he had been saying for ages that they wanted a keyboard player. After the first rehearsal they text me some gig dates.

Is it your first band or have already been the keyboard player in other band(s)?
I played keyboards in a reggae band called Stiff Naked Fools. That was about 4 year ago now. Since then I've done odd bits and bobs mainly with my friend Amy playing covers on accoustic guitars. I was a bit apprehensive about playing with The Screening as its a totally different style/vibe to what I've played before. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to adapt but its going really well, and I'm loving it :)

Is it not too hard to be the only girl?
Oh yeah it's such a chore. Again I was apprehensive about meeting the lads you know what bands can be like! Right from the first rehearsal though they have been totally welcoming and lovely to me. I wouldn't have joined if i didnt like them, You have to spend so much time together! I'm sure there are lots of girls (and boys) who would love to be in my position now especially when I'm squeezed in between the two Toms in the back of the van!

Your first gig with the band was the GlastonBlaby which is quite an important one as the band is like the "godfather(s)" of the association, was it easy for you? Or would you rather like to begin by a small gig in a small pub?

Well we did do a small gig at Sumo the Thursday before GlastonBlaby. Jim arranged it so GlastonBlaby wasn't my first gig with the band. To be honest for me sometimes smaller more intimate gigs are more nerve racking, everyones closer and you can see peoples faces and reactions. GlastonBlaby was great, the weather was amazing and loads of people turned up. The Harley Staples Cancer Trust is such a great charity offering respite to families *Happy Harley's Holiday homes* and organising entertainment days in and out of the hospital *Happy Harley Days*.

After that, you had to play the 100 Club in London which is quite a famous club!!! Any comment on that?

Yeah its a legendary venue, so many great bands have played there. It was a great night, there were 5 acts on all together and it was packed in there. Apart from my keyboard stand collapsing on stage :-/ it all went swimmingly. The sound was great.

For the moment, you're at the backing vocals with Tom Lewitt, but do you think that one day, you'll have the lead vocal on, at least, one song? Or even a duet with Tom Nurse?
Ha Ha Jesus dont let Tom N see this one! I would like to sing a duet with Tom, Kylie and Jason maybe?? Dolly and Kenny??

What kind of reaction(s) did you get from the fans?
The Screening are a bit of a lads lads band so I did wonder what people might think to a girl being in the band. So far though I've had a positive reaction :)

Would you like to be part of the writing?

I'm not the best song writer to be honest the songs would all end up sounding like nursary rhymes.

ok, randoms questions now,

Do you have a favorite song in your ipod that you should be ashame to have?
Like a guilty pleasure,My husband sorted out my i phone and put a load of music on it. I'm still discovering new tracks myself on it. He has very different taste in music to me. I recently got into Fleetwood Mac after discovering them on my phone!

What was the first ever gig you went to?

Take That- I was totally in love

What was the 1st ever cd or vinyl you bought (with your own money)?
I have a terrible memory.....
I can remember listening to Jive Bunny And The Mastermixers and a NOW (19 or something) they were the first vinyl
first CD probably Take That- I was totally in love

Do you have a message for The fans of the band?

fans are the making of bands. The Screening has a great following. Im starting to recognise faces and learn names now :)

Do you have a message for the guys?

see you later x

interview of Tom Nurse from The Screening

The Screening is probably the most famous of this "new" bands Im following and supporting, Tom "singer" Nurse has took the time to answer to some questions. Is he always honest or is he kidding? You'll have to guess!!! :)

First of all, can you introduce the band? -
Yes, Tom1, Tom2, James and little Owen

How did you all meet? And where does come from the idea of creating the band?
We all lived within 200 yards of each other as kids and me and Jim went to the same school as did Tom L and Owen,,,me and Tom2 started the band as teenagers and it evolved over a couple of years until we found what we were looking for right under our er,,,noses!

Where does come this passion for music? Have you been influenced by an artist when you were younger who makes you wanna be a rockstar?
Many bands, many experiences, many people! No one in particular! its in the blood maaaan!

Are you writing the songs all together or each of you "in a corner" then put all the ideas together?
Me and Tom2 write the "kits."The songs may change in the studio, all depends on the song. We have no specific formula and the way we write can change from time to time depending on the mood!

What gives you the inspiration to write the songs?
Marijuana and booooooze...joking of course, everyday life situations, world conflict, death, love, the usual!!

How will you describe your music?
Bright and sparkling with a hint of decay!

How did you, each of you, decide, one day, to learn how to play an instrument?
I dont reckon you decide, it just happens! You either want to do it or you dont.

In the video clip of "ten green bottles", the band is playing "the role of the car radio", who's got this idea?
We are lucky enough to have many people behind the scenes who contribute loads of stuff to the band,,it is more than just the four of us on stage. In this case a friend called Rob Powell designed the concept and directed the video to his own weird imagination! He has done all our vids and is a very talented chap!

Imagine that someone ask you, one day,  to do the exact same thing during a long journey, what would be your reaction?
Foookin do one!

In the video clip of "You Look Much Better In The Dark", you have to run under the rain because you're late to a photoshoot. Was it the other's idea to tell you that you have to stop being late? :)
No, I am renowned for my punctuality!

You're from Leicester, well known for the Walkers chips, Joseph Merrick, the National Space Center amongst others but above all by the band Kasabian who have now a huge influence in the British rock music. Do you think that your city could become the new "english capital of music"?
ha ha,,,I doubt it! Lets wait and see! There's a few good bands around these parts, it only takes a couple for the domino effect!

Strange question: If Prince William and Kate Middleton ask you to play to their wedding, will you go?
If there's a free bar then I reckon I would.

Is there an artist with who you would love to do a duet?
Justin Bieber

What's your ideal gig?
Coachella as the sun's going down! That be nice!

Personally always prefer buying the cd or vinyl of an artist but now a lot of artists released their songs only on digital copy. What's your opinion about that market?
I agree that it is much better to have a physical release,,the aesthetic of vinyl and CD's adds to the whole experience,,,downloading an MP3 is not for me but you gotta move with the times and record labels have been ripping people and bands off for decades so it is good that more bands have the potential to get there music out there,,although you will always need the might of the major labels for anybody to know about it.

If you can make a cover, what song would you choose?
We occasionally encore our sets with Sympathy for the Devil by the Rolling Stones, people love it and we reckon we do it justice! yeehaa

Tom, could you sing in an other language?
Oui, je suis polyglotte et mènent souvent des répétitions dans une multitude de dialectes!

You seems very close to "the Harley Staples Cancer Trust", is there another charity that is very close to your heart?
We knew Harley very well so we love to support that charity! That one is the one we will always focus on!

Do you have a personal dream?
A cameo in Hollyoaks is all of ours big dream or a duet with Justin Bieber.

What was the 1st ever record (cd or vinyl) have you bought?
The Stone Roses - The Stone Roses,,,cos im so cool clearly!

Is there in your ipod a song you could be ashamed to have?
yes,Girls Aloud album,,although to be frank you cant fault the choooons!

Are you addicted to one song/album?
Currently The National album High Violet,,,tis soooooper!

What was the first ever gig you went to?
Mainstream gig - Manic Street Preachers,,,me and Tom went when we were about 12!

If you could be another one of the band for one day or one week, which one will you (each of you) be and what will you do?
The Doors and I would sing I reckon!

Do you have a message for your fans/supporters?
We love all of em in their own special way,,and watch out for our debut album coming in the summer! Its a foookin belter!
