Life In Film - Live at Le Nouveau Casino_Paris_

This band I really really really love, you know! LIFE IN FILM!!!!! Well, yeah, they were back in Paris for a real proper gig but , unfortunatly, not as the healiner... Which Im sure will arrive soon after this excellent feedbacks I could hear in the venue after their set!!!

So,  Life In Film came back in Paris (for the 3rd time if Im not wrong) this week on June 16th at Le Nouveau Casino which is a venue I really like (and use to go quite often!) and where I always seen some excellent gigs!

They have been asked to play before Tribes and Cage The Elephant but I came only for them even if I knew and liked Cage The Elephant..... So I came to the gig with my friend who was with me at the Burberry Store and 2 others friends.

They were playing at 7.30pm which is not that great because usually lots of people are not coming for the 1st band and even more when it's so early!!! I was kinda worried to miss them so had to run after work (well my boss is cool so she let me leave earlier!) and also worried that there won't be too much people BUT I was wrong there were more people than I usually see for the 1st band!

The band went on stage at exactly 7.30pm (and few seconds ;} ) with "Full Circle" and there the magic begun! Then they played the 1st single "sorry", followed by another one of their "famous" songs "Carla", then "Lose Control" , the new single "The Idiot" was the next, followed by "Get Closer", then the well know "Alleyway" which is the song you can find in its acoustic version on the Burberry website, then they finally had to leave the stage which they did with a cover of "Hey that's no way" by Leonard Cohen. They couldn't stop smiling or laughing during the whole set, Sam dared to thanks the persons who came so early to see their set and they had some good applause after the songs and a good one before they leave.

Sam put his voice perfectly on the songs, they played perfectly (No I swear I choose the good word!), even the lights were good! They only damper was Dominic (bass) who missed a chord because of someone taking pictures.... tssssss ;p

After their set, I tried to pay attention of what I could hear around me and I only heard positive thoughts, well except one person with who my friends talked, who said that they were quite boring!!!! Tutututu

Well, my gal Marion, which is like me a real music lover, discovered them live this night and at the 3rd song, she told me she loved them and now she used to listen to their songs often! :)

Well, the only thing that makes me "sad" was that there was no merch for them, not even a single badge but they will have some tee-shirts soon and that will be the beginning of the fame!

What can I say that makes you wanna come to see them live next time they'll be in Paris or else where in the world? Well, if you love good pop-rock music with a singer who has a very particular voice, then you should go and spread the word. If you love Caleb Followill voice, you will even more love Samuel Fry voice's!!! Don't ask me to compare them with another band cos I hate doing that and I don't want to!

Modern Faces was the Support Band for Kasabian

So, as you probably saw before in this blog, Im "supporting" the band Modern Faces and as I previously announced, they were the support act for Kasabian for their first and last gigs of their warm-up festival tour...

I was stuck in Paris so couldn't support them in the flesh but several of my friends could be there (well more for Kasabian at first ) and 2 of them gave me their impressions and wrote me some amazing reviews and the only thing I could say is that I never lie when I say that MODERN FACES is an amazing band!!!!

First review from the gig in Sheffield (04 June 2011) By Helen Murray

It’s a tall order to be a support band when the main act is the eagerly anticipated return of the mighty Kasabian playing their first live gig since August 2010 and debuting new songs from their new album, with a crowd champing at the bit to Get Loose, Get Loose. It would make most support acts quake in their boots, but if Modern Faces felt it they certainly didn’t show it and stepped up to the mark to play a belter of a set at Sheffield 02 Academy on 4^th June.

Singer Monty was certainly up for it when he swaggered on stage in his Rock Star red velvet jacket and exclaimed “Let’s fuckin’ ave it!” at the beginning of the set - music to the ears of any excited Kasabian fan. They launched straight into the big sound of Lost in a Moment setting out their stall as pretenders to the “next big British Rock band” crown. Something tells you that you’re listening to a band from north of the border...is it a sprinkling of Glasvegas or even Big Country over those Oasis influences?....you can definitely smell the heather.

They keep up the pace, rattling through Breakoff and Got the Love with gusto, passion and energy. A change of pace with Gun for Hire, a laid back strumming Kinks-esque beginning in the vein of “The Importance of being Idle”. Then we are back into the big sound of their stomping Rock n Rolla, then a more introspective Your Love Frustrates Me, finishing with No Man’s Land.

They were very warmly received by the Kasabian crowd and after their exit from the stage there were nods of approval all round.

If Kasabian are a big ravenous Velociraptor in their current incarnation, then Modern Faces are at least hungry young T-Rexs snapping at the heels of bigger Rock dinosaurs. See how they grow!

2nd review about the gig in Manchester(08 June 2011)by Tom Wells

Modern Faces. How this band aren't massive, I have no idea.The band were greeted with cheers as I stood in front of them. The left of my face, covered by a man's armpit, and the right being elbowed by a very drunk man who had decided to use my shoulder as a resting post. He'd also decided to try chat up some young girls standing next to me by saying "this band are sh*t, I saw them last night". Well, he soon ate those words when the band broke into their first song. He then claimed that he'd been drinking for 3 days straight and had in fact been "at a different gig last night".

After the band's first song, Lost In A Moment (which is a brilliant tune!), Modern Faces were thanked with a cheer that only a Manchester crowd could give. A roar of drunken appreciation. You could see a glint in these people's eyes that said "Fucking hell, these guys are good!".
As the band continued to move deeper and deeper into their set, they got people moving more and a lot of people were getting right into the swing of the gig environment and began to enjoy themselves a lot. Although the majority of people that entered the gig had probably never heard a track from Modern Faces, they were certainly going to the merchandise stand after the headline act, Kasabian, to buy a Modern Faces CD. Towards the end of the band's set, the crowd had even began to sing along to the songs. "Love Frustrates Me" was one of the tracks that really got this. The pleasantly repetitive line in the song, "Your love frustrates me" had a good portion of the crowd singing along.
When the band reached their final track of the night, No Man's Land, the whole arena became silent, but at the same time epic as the voice over of "The state of war world exist between us..." at the start of No Man's Land was played. The crowd REALLY loved it when the music kicked in.
At the end of the song (and the set), the band got their biggest cheer of the night. What a magical way to end such an amazing gig, supporting the one and only, Kasabian.
Overall, a fantastic gig, I, for one, will definitely be going to see Modern Faces play again. What a gig. What a night. What a band.

Interview with Belle Histoire

For my 8th interview, I had the "chance"  to see this new band from Kentucky that I quite fancy opening their hearts about their passion for music and cinema, Imogen Heap and showing their love for humanity...

Tout d'abord, can you introduce yourself?  

Jane, Aaron, Wes

The band is quite a baby, I know that you were in different bands before, how did you all meet?  

Jane and I (Aaron) grew up together. Her brother is one of my best friends so naturally we were around each other when I was hanging with him. Wes and Jane played together in Jane's former band.  

And how comes the idea to put your talent together?

Jane and I have always wanted to play music together, and now we feel that the time and the music is right.

Im french so Im quite curious to know why you choose to name the band "Belle Histoire"? Why a french name? :) 

Actually it was our producers idea. We were struggling with coming up with a name for the band, and Brandon (producer at Iron Wing Studios in Covington KY) came up with the idea of Belle Histoire or Beautiful History. We really like the imagery and meaning behind that name so it stuck.

I discovered Belle Histoire in a weird way, one of you has decided to "follow" me on twitter and I needed to "see" who was this new band who thought I could be interesting. Do you think that  Twitter/Facebook/myspace or else are become important in the life of a band?  

Social media sites are crucial for bands right now. It provides the perfect way for the band to meet, keep in touch, and interact with fans.  Twitter and Facebook especially have been a huge help for us!

Is it important for you to be close to the "fans"?  

Absolutely! Our fans are the most important thing to us.  We want to get to know our fans, and it is very important for us to always remain approachable as a group.

Aaron and Jane have played a show a little over 2 months ago, did you have good feedback?

We did! We had so much fun, and continue to receive a lot of positive feedback as we have played a few more full band shows since.

 
You played your first full band show about 2 months ago, how did it go?  

It was a blast! Our producer Brandon played bass with us and our friend Austin played guitar, who is now an official member of the band.

On your Facebook page, when you reached the 1000 "likes", Aaron bought a Tambourine to Jane. Does Wes will have a present for the 2000? ;)  

Haha, I'm sure Wes would love a new drum kit if someone would like to donate!

Are you writing the songs all together?  

I (Jane) typically write the songs and Aaron helps me put them together. This is how we created all of the songs on the Spirits E.P. 

And where do you find the inspiration? 

The inspiration comes from life, relationships, and stories whether real or imaginary. 

Do you have an idol in the music industry?

We really enjoy and look up to Imogen Heap. Her creativity and originality is outstanding. 

And in the rest of the world of arts? 

I (Aaron) love movies.  Johnny Depp is my favorite actor by far.

 
Do you have a special dream for the band? 

 Our dream is to do this full time. We just love playing music, and love sharing our music with whoever would like to listen.

Does your passion for music come from your family?  

Partly from family, but also from friends and each of our life experiences.  

And do your families are your 1st fans?  

Definitely. Our families have always been our biggest supporters.

Give me, each of you, 3 words to describe your music and 3 words to describe the band. 

Jane - original, passionate, emotional. 

Aaron - unique, energetic, real. 

Wes - really, really, cool. 

We would describe the band as passionate, emotional, and unique. 

You have released your 1st EP recently but you don't have a videoclip yet for one of the song. Do you have an idea of the kind of videos you'd love to have?

  We love videos with a story line. We hope to record a music video soon! 

Do you have a favorite song from this EP? Mine is "Nightmares"....

Our favorites are Spirits and Nightmares, followed by Madison and Man. :) 

And if you could choose a director to film it, who would you choose?

Actually we aren't very familiar with music video directors. Any good suggestions? 

Is there an artist with who you'd love to make a duet?

I (Jane) would love to do a duet with Brandon Urie from Panic! at the Disco. 

If you could make a cover, which song would you choose?

We really look up to Adele. We've though about doing a cover of one of her songs. 

Jane, could you sing in another language? 

I can't, but would love to learn!

When 1st heard your songs, I couldn't imagine that Jane was so young. Do you have a secret to "work" and protect your (amazing) voice?  

I've been taking voice lessons for years, and try my best to put that training into practice.

Do you have, in your Ipod, a song or an album, you will never removed?

   We are loving the new Young the Giant cd. 

Are you interested into the cinema or another art? 

We all love movies. We see most of the major ones and a lot of the independent ones that are released. 

Hard Question: Imagine that , Tomorrow, you become really famous in Europe (I mean really more than in the U.S), could leave your country to leave in an European ones to make it "easier" for your career?

  In a heartbeat! We all love to travel and experience new places, especially when it involves music.

  

If you could give your art for a charity, which one would you choose and why?

  We are currently giving proceeds from merchandise sales to Invisible Children. We really believe in what they do and want to help those kids. 

And finally: Do you have a special message for your fans/supporters?  

Just an incredible amount of thanks for all of the support over the last couple months. We are excited to go on this journey with you, and hope you are as well!

Billy Vincent

After more than 6 months, I finally write a post about a band I love and whom the music can help you to find your sleep on the night like to make you dance like a lunatic!!! 

I discovered Billy Vincent more than one year ago when I went to the gig of Sweet Sweet Lies with my friend Marion at The Water Rats in London, they were playing just before 

and I literally fell in love!!!

BILLY VINCENT are:

Billy Barratt and David Vincent, both on Vocals and guitars

Joseph Kinsey on Bass, Harmonica and vocals

Jack Blenkinsop on Drums and vocals

Matt Woodward on Fiddle and Vocals

The band is from South London, where Billy and David have met and made that band. You can describe their music as Folk-Rock or even Dirty folk. They already release One double side single in March 2009 "Sugar and Soap", one album in late 2009 "Stay On Course, No Remorse" , and Two EP , "The Morden Shake" in February 2010 and more recently "King Island Coyote". A new single should follow soon while their full-lenght debut album is scheduled for a release in September.

I can't tell you which of their song is my fave cos I really love them all and for some I have my imagination always working... For example, when I listen to "Tubes/wires" just with the music, I can imagine the singers riding a horse dressed as Cow-boys and joining up with the rest of the band in a Saloon.... I know my imagination can be really strange!

If you can have the chance to see them live, just take the opportunity because they are really brilliant live, full of energy,passion,  really enjoying what they're doing and with a real interaction with the public. I saw them twice, once at the Water-Rats and once at the late-Flowerpot, where the stages are not really huge but even when they're really but REALLY close to each other, the passion and energy is huge!

They will be the support band for KASABIAN's  pre-summer Festival UK tour 2011 for the opening and closing nights. They'll play:

Let me tell you that Im so fucking happy for them even if Kasabian is my favorite band and I couldn't be there to support them.......

Belle Histoire

Belle Histoire is a very very young band from Covington, (Kentucky, U.S.A). The band is formed by:

Jane Smith at the  Vocals and Keys
Aaron Hunt at the Guitar and backing Vocals
Wes Comer at the  Drums
 

I discovered them in a weird way! They, one day, decided to follow me on Twitter and I don't know why but I wanted to see who was this band, so I went on their facebook and find the songs.... I COMPLETELY FELL IN LOVE WITH JANE'S VOICE!

I couldn't imagine that such a voice could come from a 16 (very soon17) young girl. She was, before, the lead singer of the young band Formulas, well they all come from other bands. 

They have just released their 1st EP called "Spirits", where you can hear the beautiful Jane's voice on 4 amazing songs. If you like the Pop/Folk/Country but Rocky music then you will love them.

Life In Film Live in Paris at the Burberry Store.

Yesterday, (Tuesday 19 of April 2011) the band Life in Film was in Paris to give a "private" showcase at the Burberry Store in Paris (Boulevard Saint-Germain).

It was a strange day for me! First the band told us about this gig one month ago so I was really excited about that, then The band told us to email them to be on the list and on the evening the store told them that it was not possible to have some "fans" on the guestlist... So I was really gutted but I was supposed to go in the afternoon just to see the band and tell them "hi".  And finally, the store told them that they can add some persons so as I was already back at my flat, I run back to the store to be on time for the show!!!! Aaah That's a thing I would do for any band I love and the guys were nice enought to try to make me and my friend come inside to see them....

At 8pm, they came on stage, on a tiny stage in a corner of the store and they really gave an excellent show.  I really thought that most of the people who were here won't care of them and will just keep on talking or just have a look to the clothes in the store, BUT no, several persons were dancing and they had a good feedback at the end of each songs...

The guys seems to be very happy to be there even if it was really hot inside of the store and that was not a problem for Edward who kept his Duffel Coat during all the gig and even after!!! After the gig,  I could talk to the band, especially Dominic, give them a huge thank you for the invitation .....

The band will be back in June at Le Nouveau Casino with Cage the Elephant and Tribes. Please this gig is not expensive (15,10euros) so you should run to buy a ticket and go support them! :)

The Twees, I discovered them exactly like I discovered Modern Faces! They've been introduced to me by the great Telescope Records Company . 

The Twees are a young Four-Piece band from New-York (U.S.A), they are:

They've been named  "Band of the Month December 2009" by the Deli Magazine and named "Band of 2010" by Sonicbids Spotlight.

What do I like in this band and why do I wanna introduce them via my blog?

Well, some are saying that they sound like the Strokes, I hate comparison and Im not a fan of the Strokes (Ah) but I love their catchy music and the fact that Jason's voice is quite special which is a positive point for a new band. They're also really kind and always in touch with their fans (another good point to touched the public! :) )

 They have already released several EPs, Lessons To Connect  in October 2009 , Hepburn Shades and Unfair Affair in May 2010, then  more recently The great These Girls in January of this year!

"Une fois n'est pas coutume!" Like I did for Alice, I'd like to post something about a good photographer and help to promote his work.

I discovered the work of Niall Keay when I was watching the pictures of a band I love Ashdowne (who I still have to introduce here!).

Niall Keay is based in Leicester and covers the whole of the UK and abroad.
